Carers Wakefield & District
  • Provides free, confidential information and support service to adults and young adult carers (aged 18+) living in the Wakefield Council area, access to support groups, 1:1 support, workshops on specific issues, access to My Time grant; social events.

  • Provides information, advice and guidance for the elderly, their carers & family members; advocacy, bereavement advice & support, Macmillan support for service users with specific cancers, befriending services, insurance services, shopping services, hospital to home service, home support service (not CQC) & support groups for older people.

  • Provides 1:1 support for people with dementia, their carers & family members; access to information, advice, & signposting; information workshops; access to a volunteer to help with accessing hobbies/activities; support groups & social events.

  • Provides information, advice and guidance for people who have had strokes and their carers; 1:1 services; support/social groups; groups to support with language-loss following stroke, head injury or other neurological condition.

  • Provides information, advice, signposting, and support for adults who are isolated, struggling with low mood, and people with long term conditions.

Young Carers Group
  • The Youth Work Team offer groups for young carers aged 11+ (secondary school) to meet with peers with similar circumstances, access information and support and advocacy, fun activities and signposting/referral to relevant services.

Job Centre Plus
Digital Resource for Carers
  • The Digital Resource for Carers, which has been developed by Carers UK, is now available in the Wakefield district. This online resource offers valuable, up to date information for Carers to support them in their caring role as well as e-learning packages, a bespoke assessment tool and a care coordination app. All products and resources are free to access but require a Wakefield specific code (below)

Carer Assessments
  • All Carers are entitled to an assessment by the local council. Carers assessments look at the different ways that caring affects carers (including physical and emotional wellbeing). Carers may be eligible for support from the local authority, will be offered advice and guidance and signposted to relevant service.
